Under the light of the full moon, thousands of grouper gather where the tides flush in and out of a channel between the protected lagoon of the Fakarava atoll and the open sea. In their wake is a fleet of a thousand sharks patrolling the reefs in hopes of a meal. As long as the fish remain motionless against the coral, their camouflage appears to keep them safe. Every once in a while, however, the waters come alive with hundreds of thrashing sharks descending on an unlucky straggler. Nature's most vital life cycles can seem chaotic and even violent to us humans when in truth nothing is wasted in the ancient balance of life on Earth.
