A coastal wolf watches over the forested shores of British Columbia, its statue-like silhouette standing stark against the pale horizon. People have a tendency to demonize animals like wolves, casting them as villains to fear and kill. However, over the course of my life, I have found that nature has no villains – only balance and the wild-hearted creatures who do their part to maintain it. The wolves that live along the coasts of the Pacific Northwest have adapted to subsist on marine life, carving out a niche within the intertidal zone and taking on their role as part of the ecosystem.
