The tiny, outstretched wings of a bird fly low over the tannin-coloured fingers of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, offering a hint of scale across an endless canvas. The challenge of photographing nature’s greatest masterpieces is deciding where to focus your attention. In this case, I chose to let my lens wander freely over the nearly 600-square-mile mosaic of sand dunes, rainwater lagoons, and winding rivers. No artist on Earth could ever truly capture the depth of our planet’s beauty, honed over billions of years. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to have the opportunity to try.
