Every day, this female grizzly would reach high up into her favourite tree and leave her scent for all the other bears in the area. I am constantly looking for portraits that offer a glimpse into an animal’s inner world and I wanted to capture the look of satisfaction on her face as she rubbed against the bark. After observing her for a few days, I mounted a remote camera to the trunk and waited for her to return, tucked out of sight behind a nearby tree. When she finally reappeared, my efforts were rewarded, and I quietly pressed the remote shutter trigger to capture the moment.
