As the short rains return to the Namiri Plains, the savannah stirs to life. Wildebeest calves find their legs in the tall grass, migratory birds wheel overhead, and the big cats stretch into the season’s cooler dawns with sharpened purpose. I watched this little family huddle together on the granite kopjes, lapping rain from each other's fur. Biologists refer to this behavior as allogrooming, which strengthens social bonds, helps remove parasites, and, in moments like this, serves as a clever means of rehydration without leaving the safety of the perch.
