A male polar bear sniffs the cold Arctic wind for signs of a seal as he waits for Canada's Hudson Bay to freeze over. Every year, the sea ice forms later in the fall and melts earlier in the spring, leaving bears stranded on land for more extended periods. Bears like this will no longer dominate the Arctic food chain when the sea ice ceases to return.
